            The Art of Expression…
            E.Y.E. Remember “Express Yourself! Empower!”

            November 30, 2010

To express yourself, is to realize that within us all we carry divine light. It’s this light that we follow to connect with the divine. Sometimes it starts to fade because of life circumstances and may even begin to flicker.

As “survivors” of life and of violence in all of its forms, we separate from our bodies to cope, not able to face the light within; self-blame plays a key role in facing ourselves yet again. Thoughts like “How can I see myself when all I know is that the wounds will be too much to bear?”

And when there is no where to go, we see the light, the ray of hope once more – we innately return to it, because we know no other. It is this hope that we are working towards instilling in ourselves and others… Call it faith, hope, light or “all that is good”; in simple terms, we are an encasement of something greater with a purpose which is waiting to be discovered.

The fundamental goal of E.Y.E. remember is to:

            • Rediscover: Hope, dignity, mercy and compassion; manifestations of the divine in our lives and within our selves
            • Celebrate our successes and remember and reflect on our challenges and the lessons that we must learn
            • Express our story of finding our inner strength and using it to inspire and empower ourselves and others
Find your voice; “I am a “survivor”, E.Y.E Remember. Do you?” are the words for this campaign…

What is the E.Y.E. Remember Campaign?

The first E.Y.E. Remember campaign will run from November 30, 2010 – December 6, 2010 that raise awareness and funds to support women survivors find their voice…through writing, reflection and empowerment workshops and activities.

This campaign is a part of the 16 days of Action which begin on November 25, 2010; the National day for the Eradication of Violence Against Women and will end on December 6, 2010 on the National Day of Remembrance – the day of the Montreal Massacre 21 years ago.

            How can you help?

Your contribution of $10 or more (the cost of my book titled “From Behind the Veil: A Hijabi’s Journey to Happiness”) will be donated to the E.Y.E remember campaign to help a survivor find her voice.
